Tara Maclay by SonyaThough Tara Maclay by SonyaThough
First I'd like to say that I HATE MY SCANNER QUITE A LOT! And this picture looks like 800 times better in my sketchbook but I really wanted to upload it so, here we go.

Anyway, I said I'd do some not terrible fan art and here it is! I know it's not Tara and Willow but Tara was the one I was having trouble with so I'm much more proud of this pic. I think Amber Benson is the most difficult person to draw on earth.

So yeah, it's Tara and she's great and I love her and...okay seriously guys, I think I'm totally gay for Amber Benson, it's actually getting kind of creepy...

Right. Sorry if this makes no sense. I may be drunk on terrible wine! :D

And the thing about my previous statement is that I was really spooked by the concept of a mom doing that to her little girl!
For reference, look at my statement here ending with the words about "buffy goes dark", about the subtext of BtVS.
Tara is a Dame in my eyes, and if her mom seduced her when she was a child- BOY that scares me and freaks me out! I am a modern-day Knight, a Dame is my 'societal equal', (honor code being the basis of that sort-of personality), so... you Bet I'd be upset if she was lead astray into THAT by her Mom!

I've never heard of this Buffy Goes Dark but I'll see about checking it out. I've never thought of any of the other stuff you mentioned in that way and I agree, that stuff with her mom would definitely be creepy and not okay, if it's taken the way you stated. Really interesting way to look at it though!

Buffy Goes Dark is a sort of documentary about the final two seasons of the TV series, and the misbehavior of the characters: their vices and so forth. It's basically the fall from grace of the characters of the series.
That's where I read of what I'd call Willow's darkest deed- lesbian rape of Tara; for reference- check out season 6 episodes 6+7 (all the way, and once more with feeling), mind you, Willow is gentle, but, since magic in Buffyverse is akin to: sex, drugs, corrupted spirituality, and other things... you can see where I am going with this. Basically, Tara is 'put under the influence' then makes out with Willow in bed. Thank Goodness they're fictional!
I bought my copy of Buffy Goes Dark from Barnes+Noble, maybe last year, and it had to be ordered, but it can be done!
Really interesting way to look at what, though?
For the 'magic as sex' concept, the scene where Willow and Tara are trying to restore Buffy to her body and get Faith back into hers is clearly having 'sex-scenes' connotations, according to the film-staff in the commentary of the DVD. (I watched it)

Yeah, well, it's a very accurate picture of her in the episode "family" I think.
And you're very welcome.

It is from "Family". I loved that episode! I really wanted to capture that super happy/ relieved look on her face, lol.

Yes, Family is a good episode, and if you read 'lesbianism' for 'magic' (which is, respectively, weird) then it could be a situation today, with Frank saying to his daughter "You don't even try to hide it anymore. It's time to come home, Tara."
The reason I said "Weird" is that her MOM was the one who taught her those 'tricks'... if you then read what I implied; it means her mom was intimate with her in ways NO parent should be, EVER!
I got the overall idea for that assessment from the documentary "Buffy goes Dark", you can check it for yourself, Sir or Ma'am.

She does have a strange-shaped face, but she's gorgeous. And I love this picture, you did a fantastic job. :)

(And don't worry about that girl-crush, I've got it pretty bad too. ^^;)

I really like how the face came out i can tell this took allot of time to make and i know how hard it can be to draw with colored pencils :] my only critique would be I wish there were some more volume in the hair and maybe darken your darks but other than that fantastic job! Drawing faces is incredibly hard to do and you did amazing!

Thank you very much! I agree with you about the hair (although it looks a bit better in real life, my scanner completely killed it, lol). I was so busy trying to get her face right that I pretty much rushed everything else. But all in all, it's still the best thing I've done with coloured pencils. :D

I very much agree it looks amazing and I know how bad a scanner can mess with what the original looks like so I feel your pain. I would definitely love to see you work more in colored pencil you definitely know how to lightly apply the medium and then layer it which is something I greatly admire. I'm very heavy handed when it comes to drawing so I can never get very gentle or fragile looking strokes. Anyways sorry for babbling ;D

Well, I used to be the same way. I would look at other people's pencil crayon drawings and wonder what the heck they were doing that I couldn't do, haha. Just takes lots of practice and patience (which is something I struggle with, lol). And don't worry, I don't mind your babbling at all! I can babble back at you and we can have ourselves a good old fashioned babble fest! :p

Thanks very much! And my advice to you is to practice drawing her before you do the final pic. It took me like 10 tries before I got anything even remotely resembling Tara, lol.
